semester test

Musicals are an important part of our culture. We listen to the music and watch when these broadway shows turn into movies that are popular for years to come. My favorite musical is one of the first i have ever seen which is Grease. This musical has been popular for decades and will be popular for many years to come.
Grease is a musical about two teenagers finding love, but having to deal with fitting in high school. Danny is the head of the gang called the T-birds, he has the reputation for being a bad boy that all the girls want. Sandy is the pretty naive girl who just moved here from Australia. Danny and Sandy meet in the summer and fall in love. when school starts again Danny is shocked to see that Sandy didnt go back to Australia. Sandy sadly discovers that Danny acts like a totally different person than he did at the beach. The rest of the movie is about how the two try to change theirselves to please the other so they can be together.
Another musical that is very similar to Grease is High School Muscial. This movie is also about two teenagers finding love. The basketball star Troy falls for the shy genius Gabriella when at a ski lodge on New Years Eve they are made to sing karoke together. These two musicals are similar because they both are about two schools changing their ways and start doing more than "sticking to the status qo" The main characters in both muscials bring together different types of people and learn to accept that everyone is different.
Grease is a well rounded musical and that is why i like it so much. It has romance, comedy, and some dramatic scenes to. Also the supporting actors are really good to i enjoy watching Frenchie, Rizo, Kinnicky, and the rest of the gang. The songs are great to i know the words to "summer nights".
In conclusion Grease is a great musical with an amazing cast and a good plot also. Grease will always be everybodys favorite. It was such an inspiration that they kind of re did the musical by producing High School Musical. This musical will always be one of my favorites for many years to come.

The school year

This school year has been a life changing year for me. I started this school year out at Cedar Ridge High School out in Newark, Ar. Where i have been going to school for 8 years. This year at Newark i played basketball and just hung out with my friends like normal. Than in December i find out i have to move to Batesville, so i thought id give BHS i try. So this semester i have been going here. I have to say BHS is way different than Newark, there are many more students here than there which is only a 2A school anyways. There are also way more extra curricular activities here like drama, newspaper, and key club. This semester i joined the track and got to know alot of people this way. We also got runner up in State!! This year has been a great year, i have grown as a person and hopefully got over some of my shyness of talking to people. So this is pretty much how my school year went for my as a Sophmore.

Westside Story

Westside story is a broadway play/movie that is set in the mid-1950s. It is about two New york gangs, the Sharks and the Jets. The Sharks are first generation americans from Puerto Rican families. The Jets are working class white boys who believe they are the true americans. The two gangs are always going at it. Tony a member of the Jets falls for Maria the sister of Bernardo the leader of the Sharks. They try to find ways to sneak around so they can be together. Than the Sharks and Jets have a rumble where Riff(the leader of the Jets) is killed by Bernardo, and Bernardo is killed by Tony who than runs to find Maria. Everything is against them so they make a plan to run away together. But than when Anita goes to Docs store and tries to give Tony a message the other gang members mess with her until tells them that Maria was killed by Chino because he found out about them when it waasnt true. When Tony finds out about he goes looking for him so he can kill him to. When he sees Maria and runs to her Chino shoots him and kills him. At the end of the movie you kind of see a little bit of reslove from the the to gangs. This movie pretty much shows how hate will kill us all.

Banning Ipods in school

First they would let people wear hats because they were writing answers in the brim, than they wouldnt let us bring cell phones to school anymore because people started texting answers to each other, and now the schools are banning ipods because teens are now using them to cheat also. i believe it is not fair. People who want to cheat are going to find ways to cheat, so i dont no why we have to punish everybody else when its only a few people abusing the privelage. I use my ipod all the time i like to listen to music all the time sometimes it helps "destress" after a big test or on a long bus ride to a game i listen to it to pass the time.
Mike Elgan wrote a piece about schools bannin ipods and he states " by banning ipods we are telling are kids we want them to be like one and learn to just learn and spit out data." i agree with him he also said that with our schools banning all of these technical devices we are showing our teens a world without technology. He believes that we need an ipod just like pen and paper. Kids use them to memorize work and most college students are using them so why not high schoolers? For us teens to make it in this ever changing world we need to learn skills and problem solving. http://www.macworld.com/
